Al-Sawagh died due to medical error, heirs to receive 156,000 dinars compensation

The Civil Court obligated the Ministry of Health and two doctors to pay the heirs of the late former MP Falah Al-Sawagh, 156,000 dinars, after the criminal court convicted them of medical negligence that led to his death, based on a final judgment issued by the Misdemeanors Court of Cassation, which found the two doctors guilty.

The Misdemeanors Court of Cassation had earlier sentenced two doctors to one year imprisonment and ordered them to pay 5,000 dinars to stop the enforcement of the verdict after convicting them of wrongful killing of former MP Falah Al-Sawagh during an operation in the hospital, reports a local Arabic daily.

The report of the committees formed by the Ministry of Health and Forensic Medicine and the College of Medicine at Kuwait University delegated by the court confirmed Al-Sawagh had died as a result of medical errors, and it was proven that there was a bacterial blood poisoning caused by the operation that was performed on him.

Al-Sawagh’s heirs had filed the case, accusing three doctors at the Saud Al-Babtain Center for Burns and Plastic Surgery, one of whom was responsible for causing the death of Al-Sawagh as a result of a medical error.
